Brandolini Blogging Bullshit
One of the best books I’ve ever read is by the writer Ryan Holiday. Holiday is largely known for his self help & philosophy work like The Obstacle is the Way, Ego is the Enemy, and The Daily Stoic. My favorite work of his comes from earlier in his career.
The first book that Holiday ever wrote is a terrifying tale on the world of marketing and internet journalism, Trust Me I’m Lying. The book touches on trading up the chain, outrage culture, and media manipulation en masse. If you exist on the internet and you have not read the book you’re doing yourself a disservice. I don’t think there has been a coordinated targeted attack against Rener Gracice, but I do think the phenomenon described in the book can help explain what has been going on. Before I do, I want to briefly touch on a law of the internet.
Brandolini's Law, also known as the bullshit asymmetry principle, is an internet adage coined in 2013 that emphasizes the effort of debunking misinformation, in comparison to the relative ease of creating it in the first place. It states that "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it."[1][2]

Anecdotes
I’m going to start this off by explaining what I learned and the order I learned it. This should not be taken as journalism, this is anecdotal experience to illustrate the discrepancy between facts and what I had

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has time to put its shoes on. There are no outright lies here, but Rener is easy to hate on, and people unfairly claimed ruined BJJ.
Really we’re critiquing our litigious justice system.
Things I didn’t know before doing research:
- They tried to settle out of court
